WELCOME Q-CAMPERS!
College opens a door to a brand new life; let us be the first to welcome you to it. Since 2005, our Q-Camp has served as an orientation to campus life for new and returning LGBT students and their allies. It takes place the first Sunday of the fall quarter during UCR’s Welcome Week. Both undergraduate and graduate students gather at Pentland Hills for a fun afternoon with peers, student organization leaders and LGBT Resource Center staff.
If you come to Q-Camp, you can…
You can RSVP for Q-Camp beginning September, 2012.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
WE REMEMBER
November 20 International Transgender Day of Remembrance
Remembering those we have lost can open minds and save lives.
Each November since 2003, we honor the International Transgender Day of Remembrance with our Trans Remembrance Display, a weeklong memorial honoring the many victims of transgender-related violence. This year’s memorial will be on display Nov.18-23 on the HUB wall outside of Stacked.
The International Transgender Day of Remembrance was created in order to memorialize all those killed due to anti-transgender prejudice and hatred. It takes place annually in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28, 1998, led to the "Remembering Our Dead" Web project and online memorial. It also led to an historic 1999 San Francisco candlelight vigil and eventually, the designation of Nov. 20 as the day we remember those we have lost.
Rita Hester's murder - like most anti-transgender murder cases - has yet to be solved.
TAKE ACTION
If you would like to help set up or take down this year’s Trans Remembrance Display, please contact Toi Thibodeaux at 951-827-2267 or toi.thibodeaux@ucr.edu
IT’S MORE THAN FIERCE, IT’S DRAGALICIOUS
Queer Alliance started the gender-bending Dragalicious Drag Ball in 2004, and it gets better every year. For one special night in April, we shine a spotlight on dazzling student drag performances, great songs, dance routines, spoken word, fashion, comedy and more. A professional drag queen serves as the night’s emcee.
Besides being a night of sheer ferocity, the Dragalicious Drag Ball is also a fundraiser that benefits UCR student scholarships.
Cheer from the audience, perform on stage, dress in drag, or don’t. Whether you show up in drag king sideburns, drag queen heels, or come as you are, we will welcome you to the ball.
What: The Dragalicious Drag Ball IX: "Contrast - Strike a JuxtaPOSE!" When: Thursday, April. 5, doors open at 7:45 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m. Where: HUB 302 Tickets in advance: $5 student, $7 general (buy tickets at 245 Costo Hall) Tickets at the door: $7 student, $10 general

BREAK THE SILENCE, SHARE YOUR STORY
“The Coming Out Monologues” (TCOM) was born at UCR in 2007. Student group Queer Alliance continues to organize the annual spring quarter event, inspired by Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues.”
“The Coming Out Monologues” is a similar positive theater project that celebrates the diversity of the “coming out” experience through individual stories told live on stage.
The event also serves as the outspoken culmination of the Day of Silence, a day in which participants nationwide take a vow of silence in order to bring awareness to anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.
PARTICIPATE
Students, faculty and staff are invited to submit monologues that tell the story of how they came out, or how a friend or family member came out to them.
Monologues should be…
- Based on a true story
- One to four pages, double-spaced
- Submitted to coming.out.ucr@gmail.com by the deadline: February 24.
Tryouts are...
- February 27-28 and March 2.
- You can choose to perform your monologue yourself or have someone else perform it for you!
If you have questions or would like to be part of the committee, please email coming.out.ucr@gmail.com
Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for TCOM updates and deadline reminders.
